Many of you know by now we moved. For those of you who are new to Ma Mo, we will give you a little bit about where it started and where we are now.
It all started back in 1996 on the Island of Oahu (more of that story on our About page)
We opened our retail shop just north of the University of Washington in the Roosevelt/Ravenna neighborhood. It was a little twist of fate that landed us there. It had been almost 2 years since Maurice’s Uncle Daniel Louis retired and closed his Downtown store, Daniel Louis Jewelry Art. Maurice was working as a Union Journeyman Ironworker and Morgan working for a large Jewelry Chain and an online Diamond business. We had been looking for a space of our own to set up shop for some time and came to a crossroad of returning to Hawaii or hit the road for adventures in far off places. Then Maurice called on a advertisement in the local newspaper for jewelry equipment and he met Charles Londo who was located in Roosevelt/Ravenna. Charles Londo made custom jewelry and ran his brick-and-mortar store by himself. They briefly talked about what Maurice wanted to do with the equipment and Charles ended up knowing his Uncle Daniel and he himself was also wanting to retire. Knowing and respecting Daniel Louis, Charles asked Maurice if he wanted to take his space saying he wanted to pass “the torch”.
Ma Mo Jewelry Design operated out of the space in Roosevelt/Ravenna for 16 years. Designing, manufacturing, repair, re-styling, and creating custom jewelry for clients. We did a lot of custom work with our strength being versatility. Capable of designing and executing every detail for clients wished and requests.
Then changes came to the neighborhood by way of new bike lanes taking parking and the new light rail station to be just a block away. This meant our building was to make way for new apartments and the revamp of the area.
We took down our sign and packed up the shop and moved into a Studio format …..
The studio at the Old Rainer Brewery in SoDo was a bright space with our view of the city. It felt like a short time there as things changed in 2020, and we moved again….
Now we are fully based on-line working and in a new studio…..( with no plans to move soon)
